We celebrated 150 years!
They say that “time is flying when you are having fun!” It’s hard to imagine that our journey to celebrate our 150th Anniversary started more than a year ago. What we wanted to accomplish with our celebrations was simple: To honor our past, celebrate the present and embrace the future.
Our kickoff
We kickoff our celebrations with Challenge 150. On a regular basis, we offer a variety of service activities for our congregants to get involved. We have gathered socks, donated blood, visited nursing homes to deliver beautiful handmade flower pens, collected food for the pantry, challenged members to volunteer more than 150 community service hours.
We marched in the Des Plaines 4th of July parade
We were reminded of our interconnectedness not only with each other and with the Seventh Day Adventists, but also our global interconnectedness as the Body of Christ, and we confirmed it with an “international potluck” after the service.
We celebrated our youth, we recognized our past and present members as we enjoy musicians who served our church from the past years
Our history of 150 years was brought to life by a beautifully captured and executed play, in our recently listed historical building.
We partied late into the night in banquet style. We finally concluded our celebrations on Sunday with a communion worship service, welcoming visitors from near and far, and having our pastor emeritus bring us a message of community, commitment and compassion.
150 Years of History
So, what is next?
We have honored our past, celebrated the present and now is the challenging time that we need to embrace the future. We already have a great Captain in Jesus as the head of his body. But we need team members that is willing to take on the challenge to embrace the future.
